How to Deal with Senioritis
If you’re a current senior, chances are you know this term pretty well. Senioritis, or the feeling of being done with school. It’s a feeling that many can relate to even as early as high school. I didn’t expect to be hit with senioritis so early into the school year, but it’s seemingly inevitable for most seniors in their last year of undergraduate studies. Dealing with senior year burnout isn’t easy, but here are some tips to make it more manageable as you finish up your degree.
1. Focus on the positive.
Although we may feel tired, it’s important to focus on how this is our last few quarters of our degree. We’re almost at the very end, and we should celebrate that in our own ways. Focusing on how far we have come will make us feel better about our progress in college, and it’ll allow you to have a better mindset going forward post graduation.
2. Make the most of your time.
Since this is the final stretch of undergrad, have fun! Go out with your friends, try that new coffee shop, and just have the best time. While we’re all used to the routines we’ve made for ourselves in college, senior year means that the end to normalcy as we know it is slowly coming to an end. It’s important to make the most out of the time so that you can look back on fond memories and reminisce on the fun you had during your senior year.
3. Don’t feel overwhelmed by uncertainty.
While this is easier said than done, one of the biggest side effects of senioritis is being uncertain of what’s to come post grad. It’s weird to feel done with school yet apprehensive about the future, but it’s a feeling that many of us can’t shake. It’s perfectly fine and normal to not know what you want to do after college. There is still so much trial and error we have to go through in order to find something that fulfills us and makes us happy, so don’t feel discouraged by not immediately knowing what’s next in store for you.
As the class of 2024’s college education slowly comes to a close, it’s important to remember that there is still so much ahead of us. While we may feel burned out now, we should try and minimize any negative feelings by focusing on how we can better spend our time. Figuring out how we function without academics in the equation is difficult in itself, so the best way to not lose sight of yourself is by focusing on things that make you happy. Hang in there class of 2024, we’re almost there!
