Meet our Writers: Anayissa

Hello! Hola!

I’m Anayissa, a third-year literary journalism major from Ontario, California. When I was in 2nd grade, I stepped foot onto a college campus for the very first time. That feeling of being a part of something bigger and better than yourself is one I will never forget. Fast forward many years later, here I am now giving college tours to the future leaders, achievers, and dreamers of the world as a Campus Representative at UCI! #wild

A little bit about me… I was born and raised in the Inland Empire. I am a PROUD first-generation Latinx student sharing roots from both Mexico and El Salvador. I love to play the beautiful game of soccer and, on occasion, ball up in basketball. My Spotify top five list would definitely include artists like Tame Impala, Hillsong United, Los Angeles Azules, Coldplay, and even some Odesza. I am “considered” an ENFJ, so I guess you can say that I am just like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Johnny Depp (don’t believe me? look it up). I have characteristics of being charismatic, a natural leader, and reliable, but interpret it as you like, because trust me I’m more than just a personality test!

Some of my involvements here at UCI have included:

  • ASUCI Academic Affairs Intern

  • Antleader Mentorship Program Mentee, Mentor, and Media & Publicity Coordinator

  • Anteater TV Intern

  • Campus Representative

  • FOCUS Bible Study

  • HOPE - Hearts Openly Praying Everywhere

  • Resident Advisor

My journey here at UCI has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. If I could sum it up, I would tell future students to expect the unexpected. But I have learned that you don’t have to do this journey alone! Yes, for some it may be hard to turn to others for help (it definitely was for me). That feeling of not being “good enough” or a “burden”, but there's definitely somebody out there wanting to see you succeed, wanting to see you thrive, and looking to help you more than you know.
